There is lots to do on the ship but our preference is to read, chat or take in a movie or two - not hard when you do not have a schedule and no call on your time.
We took an organised tour in Fortaleza; not having been here before and also being warned of it not being too safe. The city center is reasonably safe if you keep aware but it is easy to inadvertently come close to a favella (slum area) and become a target. The city area is very densely populated with narrow streets and much traffic congestion. Adding to the general problem of congestion, there is also lots of construction and renovations in progress for the 2014 World Cup of Soccer.
Busy yes - Organised no
Typical downtown street corner
Anything goes but look out for traffic
Mobile store - $2 for a hat
Central market - more chaos
Ed thinks city workers are the same the world over - perhaps their cafeteria has closed too
A reminder not to take our lifestyle for granted - we know we are fortunate
The happy wanderers
This city has a beautiful water front promenade - in sharp contrast to the downtown area
